How to Grow Your Massage Practice with Chair Massage
from: Nicole Cutler, L.Ac.As the profession of massage therapy becomes more competitive we
need to find more interesting and innovative ways to retain our
current clients, as well as attract new ones.
Most business owners, when trying to increase visibility in
their market, go straight to conventional forms of advertising.
But to interest someone in getting a massage, or just getting
them into our office, sometimes requires a more 'hands-on'
approach. Providing chair massage does just that by allowing
potential clients to have a sampling of your work before
committing to an entire hour of full body massage. Finding out
just who those clients might be will take some work, but once
you identify them, you can target your market.
For example, if you specialize in sports or rehabilitative
massage, offering chair massage at sports competitions or
tournaments can attract those who seek pain relief after an
event or desire help through bodywork in achieving higher
performance levels.
Volunteering to do chair massage at these events may be a way to
get your foot in the door and will expose you to clients you may
have not met otherwise. It also allows you to give service to
your community and offers an opportunity to hand out your
business cards or brochures.
Remember that chair massage has the same legal requirements as
table massage, whether you do it in your own office or at an
off-site location, so always have your credentials with you to
give to the event coordinator.
Including chair massage in your practice is an easy way of
adding a service to your practice that can increase not only
visibility in the community but, ultimately, profitability.
Depending upon where you perform chair massage, being reimbursed
can take on many different forms.
